The Atlanta Falcons are among the shortlist of teams that currently have less than $10 million in cap space before free agency. But Thomas Dimitroff — the GM of the Falcons — is confident in the team's future. Nearly a week until free agency, Dimitroff spoke out on how the team is approaching the offseason with limited cap space.

“We look at where we are spending our money and we try to decide how we are going to adjust. Sometimes, it takes more creativity in a year where you sign a lot of players to high contracts coming into a year verses another year when things are a little less active and it becomes a little easier to navigate,” Dimitroff said, via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “This year happens to be one of those years with the players that I suggested earlier that we have signed [Matt Ryan, Julio Jones and Grady Jarrett] that it makes it more complicated.”

Last offseason, the Falcons agreed to deals with Julio Jones and Grady Jarrett that totaled $39 million in average salary. With Matt Ryan also having a lucrative contract, Atlanta currently has just $4.2 million in cap space (third-fewest in the NFL).

While they currently don't have much cap space, the Falcons could make a few roster moves to create some extra wiggle room. For instance, releasing Devonta Freeman, Allen Bailey, and Keanu Neal would free up $14.3 million in cap savings.

Due to giving out high-priced extension in recent years, the Falcons don't have much money to address the rest of the roster. Nevertheless, Dimitroff believes that the team is in an ideal spot moving forward.
