NFL teams have been facing a much different season in 2020 than they are used to. The coronavirus pandemic has complicated things quite a bit, and the Atlanta Falcons have announced their intentions for stadium capacity at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The coronavirus pandemic has not hurt the season just yet. Despite other leagues suspending play, canceling games and delaying the start to the season, the NFL has not had that issue yet.

Sure, the NFL Draft was virtual and the offseason has been anything but normal, but the regular season is still on track.

However, one thing it has done when it comes to the regular season has to do with fans. A lot of teams are opting not to allow fans at their games.

And now the Falcons have made a decision, according to the team's official website:

“With the health and well-being of all parties involved and to ensure social distancing, the Atlanta Falcons announced in an email to season ticket members Wednesday they will have a limited capacity of up to 10,000-20,0000 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium for home games during the 2020 NFL season.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium's reduced capacity is in keeping with state and local requirements as well as the NFL and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) social distancing guidelines.

In addition to the limited capacity announcement, the Falcons have also informed season ticket members of two new financial options meant to provide relief from any economic difficulty fans may be facing. Per NFL protocols, all ticketholders must wear face covering at all times once inside the stadium.”

So there it is, the Falcons will be allowing fans at their home games in 2020. Not a full stadium though.

Somewhere between 10,000 and 20,000 fans will be allowed at each game. This will allow them to safely social distance. At the same time, the fans are required to wear face coverings while in the stadium.

It remains to be seen just how open the stadium will be. Atlanta might decide to shut down some of the food/store options in the stadium, as a way of preventing the fans from getting huddled together.

This is exciting news for anyone that was itching to go to a sporting event though. While many people will likely decide to just watch from home and enjoy the game in the safest possible environment, it's hard to imagine the Falcons will have too much trouble “selling out” the tickets for each home game.
