The NFL offseason has officially begun as teams across the league can start making early moves to the roster. Trading and free agency opens up in March, which is the start of the new year. However, the Atlanta Falcons are ahead of the curve right now after surprisingly cutting Dante Fowler early in the offseason.

According to the Falcons, they've already decided to release Dante Fowler. He's had a rough go throughout his career, as Fowler has failed to live up to the expectations of a first-round selection. Many believed Atlanta was a place he could rejuvenate his career, but it seems he'll be looking to sign with his fourth franchise in seven years.

Playing primarily as a pass rusher, Fowler was unable to earn starting minutes. Instead, he served as a solid depth piece in the Falcons front seven. Dante Fowler managed to record 36 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles last season. However, his efforts were not enough for the front office to keep him on the roster.

We'll see what the future holds in store for Dante Fowler. After two abysmal years in Atlanta, the former first-round pick aims to make an impact on a new team. Even so, he's not likely to fetch a big contract after proving to be a liability in the Falcons defense. Regardless, Fowler should be able to find a new home and serve as a depth piece for the remainder of his career.

This looks like a good move for the Falcons, as they could be looking to replace him in the upcoming draft. Luckily for Atlanta, this year's draft class is stacked with talented pass rushers. With the NFC South in shambles right now, this team could make some noise next year. Although, it all depends on how the offseason plays out.
