Justice has been served. Three men were found guilty after they tracked down a young Georgia man named Ahmaud Arbery and brutally murdered him while he was out on his daily run in February of last year.

The Atlanta Falcons released a statement on the verdict and pleaded for the rest of the nation to be more respectful and find a greater sense of connection:

Ahmaud Arbery's death was just one of numerous incidents that sparked outrage across the United States after far too many African American lives were taken away. The convictions for Travis McMichael (guilt on all nine charges), his father Greg McMichael (guilty on eight of nine charges) and neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan (guilty on six of nine charges) could mean life in prison without parole, but a sentencing date is not yet clear.

A huge crowd gathered outside of the courthouse during the case and were extremely pleased when Arbery's killers were found guilty. While nothing will bring back Ahmaud Arbery, at least these men will face repercussions for their horrific actions.

However, one concerning thing to keep in mind is that it took almost two years to even have a trial for this case. After all, it happened in February 2020. That goes to show how broken the justice system is, especially in the state of Georgia.

May Ahmaud Arbery rest in peace.
