UPDATE: The Falcons announced just one new positive COVID-19 test on Thursday, not four as initially reported. They still closed their facility “out of an abundance of caution.”

There have been a few teams that have dealt with COVID-19 incidents in recent weeks and the NFL has another one on their hands. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Atlanta Falcons have shut down their team facility after they had multiple positive COVID-19 tests on Thursday.

It was discovered that the Falcons had four positive tests on Thursday morning, per Schefter.

As of this moment, it remains to be seen if the positive cases are players or coaches on the team. But similar to other teams who have experienced positive COVID-19 cases this season, Atlanta's upcoming matchup with the Minnesota Vikings is now in jeopardy.

Seeing that the positive tests surfaced on Thursday, the Falcons could begin placing players on the COVID-19 reserve list soon. At the same time, Atlanta may wait until Friday to make sure the tests weren't false-positives.

At the least, the Falcons have already taken the necessary precautions of shutting down their team facility. For them to reopen their facilities, they'll need to get the go-ahead from the NFL after undergoing the required guidelines.

We've already seen the Tennessee Titans, New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Las Vegas Raiders deal with positive tests. The Falcons also dealt with their own isolated case of COVID-19 back in Week 3 when rookie A.J. Terrell missed the team's game against the Chicago Bears due to the coronavirus.

The league will be monitoring the progress of Atlanta's positive tests before deciding on what to do next. However, if the Falcons are proven to have legitimate positive tests, the NFL may need to postpone their upcoming game versus the Vikings.
