The Atlanta Falcons won’t need to find a second offensive coordinator in as many years if head coach Dan Quinn is to be believed. Quinn has squashed rumors linking first-year offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian to the Seattle Seahawks, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s D. Orlando Ledbetter.
“Zero chance of that,” Quinn said when asked about the rumors. “I recognize you asking, but for us, there is no basis to any of this.”
Seattle is in the market for a new offensive coordinator after recently firing Darell Bevell, and Sarkisian has obvious connections to Seahawks coach Pete Carroll. Sark served as Carroll’s quarterbacks coach from 2005 to 2006 as well as an assistant head coach and offensive coordinator from 2007 to 2008 during their time at USC.
After unsuccessful stints as head coach of both the University of Washington and USC as well as one season as Alabama’s offensive coordinator, the Falcons brought Sarkisian in this season to replace the departed Kyle Shanahan as the team's offensive coordinator.
The Falcons took a notable step back from last year’s amazing offense which helped carry the team all the way to the Super Bowl. They finished just 15th in points per game (22.1) in 2017 under Sarkisian and were eighth in total offense (364.8).
Still, Sarkisian and the Falcons are just one win away from going back to the NFC Championship Game after beating the Los Angeles Rams 26-13 during the wild-card round. However, they’ll need to overcome a stout Philadelphia Eagles defense which gave up just 18.4 points and 306.5 total yards per game.
