After an offseason of high-profile players across the league holding out for new deals, it’s a breath of fresh air to see some players playing into their season to get a deal done; Which is what Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones plans to do as he looks to play week one.

Following practice on Thursday, Jones said all he is concerned about right now is “being ready to go.” And with this type of work ethic, the Falcons organization is looking to get a deal done for him by the end of the week.

The Falcons’ star wide receiver and the team have reportedly been “close” to a new deal for a while now. Falcons owner Arthur Blank told Andrew Schultz of The Athletic that he would be “surprised and disappointed” if an extension is not done this week.

He’s looking for a new deal after coming off of a season where he produced 113 catches for 1,677 yards and eight touchdowns. It was his second season leading the league in receiving yards and the third time leading the league in receiving yards per game (104.8 in 2018). It was also his third season of having at least 100 catches in the year and fourth time of having at least eight touchdowns as well.

Jones has put together six trips to the Pro Bowl and two All-Pro selections since being drafted by the Atlanta Falcons back in 2011 after trading for him with the Cleveland Browns in the Draft of that year. And he was an instrumental piece during the team’s Super Bowl run back in 2016.
