English broadcaster Jeremy Clarkson believes Lewis Hamilton has changed over his years in Formula 1, calling Hamilton ‘woke' for his political endeavors.
Hamilton came into Formula 1 as one of the most talented young drivers the sport has ever seen. In a caucasian-dominated sport, Hamilton broke down boundaries by becoming the first and only F1 driver of African descent. However, along with becoming the most marketable driver within the Formula 1 paddock, he has accumulated a large number of haters as well—this can be attributed to his activity outside the world of F1.
Clarkson chimes into Hamilton's change in behavior over the years, explaining that his fellow Brit was once appreciated for being a talented driver who broke boundaries but is now ridiculed at almost every race—apart from the British Grand Prix for obvious reasons.

“It happens everywhere he goes, whether he wins or loses. People love Max Verstappen but they’ve taken a noisy dislike to Lewis. The problem is that Lewis has changed. When he first came on to the scene he was bright and talented and normal – and everyone loved him. But then he decided to go woke and right-on and more politically correct than a student union AGM.”
Following the murder of George Floyd, Hamilton had Mercedes paint their Formula 1 cars black in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. He also pledged his choice of converting into a vegan and urged everyone to follow—saying that Veganism is the only way to save the world—but backfired horribly on social media.
Clarkson summarizes that the concern is that the green movement uses Hamilton as a mouthpiece with hopes of converting people all over the world to go green—but it backfires every time. Instead of listening to Hamilton's word of advice, F1 fans ignore his statements and want to throw things at him instead.
