Lawrence Stroll, a part-owner of Aston Martin's Formula 1 team, speaks out on Lance Stroll's stint with Williams Racing.

Lance Stroll entered Formula 1 with flashes of talent and greatness.  Before his F1 debut, he placed first in various competitions such as the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, Toyota Racing Series New Zealand, and the Italian Formula 4 Championship.

However, Stroll's earlier days in F1 are completely different from his past success. He finished 12th in his first season, and 18th the following year.

His father, Lawrence, gave comments in the Beyond the Grid podcast regarding Lance's time with Williams.

“The two years at Williams were torture,” Lawrence Stroll makes his opinion clear. “When you're used to winning in the previous classes, and then you only finish 18th, it's hard to digest.”

Stroll's struggle prompted his father to make moves, securing better winning opportunities.

“So it was quite important that we gave Lance the chance to drive a more competitive car and we managed to do that with Racing Point from 2019.”

Stroll's transfer showed results, allowing him to finish 11th in Formula 1 with two podium finishes in 2020, with his father sharing that additional success was attainable.

“After the Italian Grand Prix, he was in fourth place in the championship, but then came the blowout in Mugello, followed by a couple of collisions with other drivers. He just had no chance.”

Today, Stroll's season with Aston Martin has been quite decent, currently sitting 13th in Formula 1's driver standings with 26 points.
