Forza Horizon 5 is now out, and so we're back again with our roundup of Forza Horizon 5 review scores. Did the critics like the game? Is it better than Forza Horizon 4, or than the other racing games recently out, for that matter?

Forza Horizon 5 Review Scores – Metascores of 91 for both PC & Xbox Series X

Metacritic has awarded Forza Horizon 5 with the Metacritic Must-Play badge, telling us all we need to know about the question: Is Forza Horizon 5 worth it? Indeed it is, and it may just be the best racing game in existence. On top of a strong car racing simulation, Forza Horizon 5 is also a gorgeous open-world, with lush forests, grasslands, rocky mountains, and even volcanoes! Forza Horizon 5 lets players race on different terrains, all played in cinema-quality graphics.

PC Invasion gave Forza Horizon 5 a perfect 10/10 for the PC, while VGamesImpulsegamer, Areajugones, Stevivor, MondoXbox, Generacion Xbox, GamingBolt, Windows Central, Dexerto, TheGamer, GamesRadar+, IGN, TrueAchievements, Player 2, VGC, and God is a Geek gave the game a perfect score for the Xbox Series X.

All of these publications have deemed Forza Horizon 5 a perfect game, especially on the console it's developed for – the Xbox Series X. The game truly harnessed the technical capabilities of the console, drawing all of the power it needs to execute the presentation to perfection. IGN described the game best, in our opinion, saying:

Forza Horizon 5 is a deep and nuanced car nirvana for revheads and auto geeks to endlessly collect, tinker, and experiment. It’s also an extremely accessible buffet of racing spectacle open to everyone, from Deluxe Edition diehards to Game Pass nomads – no matter their driving skill or mechanical knowledge. It’s an occasionally goofy but always earnest Valentine to Mexico’s world-famous culture, and a romantic ode to the magic of road-tripping through postcard-perfect vacation vistas. It’s a long haul, MMO-inspired racer that’s exploding with more races, activities, and event types than can comfortably fit on some parts of the map – and yet it still always feels relaxed rather than daunting. It never locks you into something you don’t want to do and steadily rewards you for however you choose to play it. It looks beautiful, it sounds magnificent, and it is glorious to play. Yes, Forza Horizon 5 is a lot of things. Above all, however, it is the result of a racing studio at the peak of its craft and the best open-world racing game I’ve ever played.”

Forza Horizon 5 is so good that it currently doesn't have any mixed reviews or lower. It's a masterpiece – a craft made by experts of the genre. It's made to be approachable for all kinds of audiences – casual players to the most hardcore car enthusiasts. It's also accessible to all kinds of players, from casual players to the most competitive.

Indeed, Forza Horizon 5 is the seminal Forza Horizon game. Sure, it's more Forza Horizon, but it's also so much more.

Of some of the less positive Forza Horizon 5 review scores, Inverse gave the game an 8/10It describes Forza Horizon 5 as Forza Horizon 4, but better. It criticized the game for lacking innovations that Forza Horizon 4 had. The 5th entry, then, didn't add a lot of things to the table for the series. But still, it took what was on the table and brought it to perfection.

Forza Horizon 5 builds upon a winning formula, and because of that, it’s still the best racing game of the year and one of the most beautiful games ever made. But most of its new features feel like little more than back-of-the-box diversions.

The approach with Forza Horizon 5 appears to be “do Forza Horizon 4 again, but bigger and prettier.” And frankly, you could do a lot worse.”

It also says a lot about a game nowadays that even though it was meant for consoles, its PC version doesn't have the usual complaints on performance issues. The most complaints we saw came from Well-Played, whose review listed down “The Bad” as the following:

  • Game is mostly just FH4 but in Mexico
  • Light shining off the roads can obscure driving lines
  • A minor bug or two (pretty easy fixes)

And for that, Forza Horizon 5 didn't get a perfect 10 from Well-Played. It got a glistening 8.5/10. “Forza Horizon 5 has carried the tradition of consuming my time inside a genre that normally doesn't interest me. Playground Games has displayed technical wizardry with this game and while it doesn’t change the formula to any significant extent, the experience found within Forza Horizon 5 is killer.

Conclusion

Based on what everyone's saying, Forza Horizon 5 is a beast. It performs really well, and it looks really good. We've read a lot of reviews saying that this game converted them into car racing simulation fans, even for those who have the nerdiest of backgrounds. If Forza Horizon 5 is that good, then it probably justifies getting an Xbox Series X just to experience it and it alone. Here's to hoping that Gran Turismo 7 can do the same for the PS5.
