Games don't usually have any expiry dates, and most games are available to purchase until their platforms get obsolete. However, Microsoft says that Forza Motorsport 7 would have already reached its end in September, mere four years since launch.

The odd move was announced on the game's website, with Microsoft giving gamers until September 15, 2021, to purchase the game. While players can continue playing the game past that date, and it will still be playable online, you will no longer be able to buy the game. Support for the game's esports Rivals events will still be there. It's quite an unusual move, given that games usually are available to purchase until the games' multiplayer servers go online. In some cases, you can continue purchasing games whose online servers have already shut down.

Meanwhile, for those who have had the game's DLCs on their accounts on Xbox Game Pass, there's a small gift from Microsoft. These tokens will be sent to the players through the Xbox Message Center through August 2. Microsoft encourages players to contact Xbox Support if ever they don't receive their token by then. These tokens will expire on September 15, 2023. Finally, those who wish to purchase Forza Motorsport 7 before it disappears forever can enjoy a 10% discount.

More details about the forced retirement of Forza Motorsport 7 can be found on the support blog. Perhaps the move is meant to help Forza Horizon 5 sell more copies when it launches later this year. Launching in November, Microsoft will be able to sell more Forza Horizon 5 copies if fans can no longer buy Forza Motorsport 7, preventing the cannibalization of each other's sales. Whatever the case will be, it seems Microsoft's mind is set already.
