Anya Taylor-Joy has a low amount of dialogue in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga per director George Miller.

In an interview with The Telegraph, it was revealed that Taylor-Joy only has “around” 30 lines of dialogue in Furiosa. However, this was done for a reason according to Miller. He was inspired by silent film actors like Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin.

He told the outlet that the “problem with dialogue” is that it “tends to slow things down” and films are best enjoyed at “high speed.” Even still, 30 lines of dialogue over two-and-a-half hours for Taylor-Joy seems low.

The approach is similar to Clint Eastwood's Man With No Name trilogy. He played an antihero who rarely spoke in his films. Given the positive first reactions to Furiosa, it must work.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is a prequel spin-off to Fury Road. Miller co-wrote the script with Nico Lathouris. The film takes place over a decade before Fury Road and follows Taylor-Joy, Imperator Furiosa, who is taken from the Green Place of Many Mothers. She attempts to get home through the Wasteland.

Chris Hemsworth stars in the film as Dementus, the film's antagonist. Tom Burke and Lachy Hulme also star in the film. Furiosa will hold its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15. Warner Bros will subsequently release the film on May 24 in the United States.

This is the fifth installment in the Mad Max series. George Miller has directed all five films (he co-directed the third film, Beyond Thunderdome, with George Ogilvie).

The franchise began in 1979 with Mel Gibson in the title role. It was a hit and spawned two more sequels with Gibson, including the third film that features Tina Turner.

After three decades away, the franchise returned with Fury Road. This time around, Tom Hardy played Mad Max. The cast also features the likes of Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Riley Keough, and Zoë Kravitz.
