The debate between Genshin Impact fans on which of the two siblings is the canon main character has been settled. A Reddit post by u/CapGlace shared a screenshot of a customer service reply to a player. The reply reads:
“Both Lumine and Aether can be the Traveler. The choice is ultimately up to the player,” says a Genshin Impact customer support representative. “We may use one or the other in the position of the Traveler for promotional content, but there is no one “canon Traveler.” We hope that this clears things up.”
The customer support response reveals that both characters are canon. Many fans have been arguing over this, especially since major plot points revolve around the real identity of the two siblings. Many fans point to promotional materials such as trailers to argue for their preferred main character. However, MiHoYo finally cleared up once and for all that promotional content doesn't prove anything. Either one of the two Travelers can be used in Genshin Impact marketing materials, but this does not affect the game's lore.
A segment of the Genshin Impact community won't accept that Lumine is on equal grounds as Aether. This clarification straight from the source should be enough to clarify the misconception. However, fans can believe whatever they want, and they can continue to believe in their own headcanons.
The next question will probably be: will the Genshin Impact x Honkai Impact crossover collaboration canon for either game? Let the debates begin.
