Night School Studio, the developers behind Oxenfree and Afterparty, has just been acquired by Netflix. Despite this acquisition, the studio will still be free to continue the development for Oxenfree 2

On Night School’s official website, the studio explains what their future will be like with their new partnership with the entertainment service provider. Their blog post reads, “We get to keep doing what we do, how we like to do it”.

This is followed by Night School praising Netflix, saying:

“The Netflix team has shown the utmost care for protecting our studio culture and creative vision.”

We do not know yet what the buyout will entail, but this collaboration might greatly encourage other game studios to partner up with the streaming network as well.

Netflix first expressed its desire to enter the video gaming industry months ago. While some may have not taken this too seriously, there are those who look on more optimistically. More recently, YouTube streamer Dr. Disrespect even expressed his desire to stream games on their platform. Netflix's entry into the gaming industry will feel even more legitimate if they continue to acquire well-respected indie devs.

The entertainment body is currently focused on its Android app. Netflix Games app is slowly rolling out around the globe featuring games based on Netflix originals, such as Stranger Things: 1984 and Stranger Things 3.
