After winning the National Championship last season, the Georgia Bulldogs are ready to run it. Despite losing most of their starters, especially on the defensive end, the team is still raring to defend their title. It seems like the oddsmakers also like Bulldogs' championship chances for the 2024 College Football Playoffs, as they open as the favorites for the title (+220 on FanDuel).
“It has been eight years since oddsmakers anointed a team other than Alabama or Clemson as the preseason favorite. That streak is over, as Georgia is firmly the consensus betting favorite to win the College Football Playoff at sportsbooks around the nation.”
Previously, it was either the Alabama Crimson Tide or the Clemson Tigers that were considered as the pre-season favorites. In fact, for the last eight years, it was one of the two teams that were considered as the favorites to win it all. However, with Georgia's chokehold on the college football scene over the last couple of seasons, it makes sense for them to be favored.
The Bulldogs did lose many key stars to the NFL draft. In particular, their defense lost a lot of key players: players like Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, and Tyrique Stevenson all joined the NFL. Additionally, one of their top offensive linemen, Broderick Jones, also was drafted in the first round. That's the unfortunate reality of being a college powerhouse.
Still, with how well-coached the Georgia football team is, it's not a stretch to still call the Bulldogs favorites for the 2023-24 season. Do they have one more championship run in them?
