Germany is looking to win the Euros for the first time since 1996 and has a chance to do it as the host. Standing in their way in the tournament's opening game is Scotland, who over-achieved in qualifying by finishing second in Spain and Norway's group. Germany didn't have any qualifying due to their position as the hosts, so they had to play some friendly matches in the tournament's lead-up. It is time to continue our 2024 Euro odds series with a Germany-Scotland prediction, pick, and how-to-watch.

Germany had three wins and a draw in the four friendly games before the Euros. They beat Greece 2-1 and had a scoreless draw with Ukraine at the beginning of June, but their results in March give the Germans plenty of hope. They defeated France 2-0 to kick off their March friendlies, then beat the Netherlands 2-1 three days later. Germany will have the best tactician at their disposal with Julian Naglesmann at the helm, which is evident in recent matches.

Scotland will rely on an experienced midfield to lead them at the Euros. Their mid-line is full of Premier League players, but the rest of their Starting XI is questionable. Leading striker Lyndon Dykes is out for the tournament with an injury, which elevates Che Adams to the starting role.

Why Germany Will Win

The Germans are the heavy favorites to win this game for good reason. They've looked flawless in qualifying, with confidence-building wins over France and Netherlands. Germany needed a reason to believe, as they were ousted in the Round of 16 in the last Euros and failed to make it out of the group stage of the 2022 World Cup. They are a different team now with Naglesmann leading the squad, and their tactical adjustments have been working thus far.

Scotland will have a hard time generating an attack on Germany, as the Germans play a disciplined defensive game. The absence of Dykes from the Scotland lineup will be a problem, as Che Adams struggles at the top of a transition style. Germany will need to figure out Scotland's defense, as they are content with sitting back in a 5-3-2 and forcing their opponents into mistakes. As long as Germany controls the box and doesn't allow Scotland's crossing offense to break through, it should be a clean sheet for Manuel Neuer.

Why Scotland Will Win

Scotland understands the blueprint for beating top teams at the Euros. The Scots play a pressing style against lesser competition, but they applied a different tactic against Spain in qualifying. Scotland sat back and defended Spain well, which led to two low-scoring games between the two teams. Spain broke through in their last meeting, but Scotland pulled off the 2-0 upset in the previous match.

Scotland will have a hard time slowing the German momentum in front of a sure-to-be raucous crowd in Munich, but they could create some doubt among the supporters if they play them like they did Spain.

Final Germany-Scotland Prediction & Pick

There will be value in taking Scotland to have some high-scoring games later in the tournament, but this has the potential to be a low-scoring matchup. The worry is that Scotland will start pressing if Germany scores early. However, if the Scots can keep them off the board while parking the bus early, we could see this total go under. In Scotland's two qualifying games against another world power in Spain, the score ended 2-0.
