The New York Giants appear buried in the NFC East cellar. They absorbed a 20-17 defeat to the struggling Carolina Panthers in overtime in Week 10, as quarterback Daniel Jones struggled with his execution and leadership once again.

New York had tied the game with 4 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter on a Graham Gano field goals, and the fans in Munich, Germany saluted the Giants for their comeback effort. However, Tyrone Tracy fumbled on the first play of overtime, and that set up Jaguars placekicker Eddy Piniero with the game-winning 36-yard field goal.

The Giants were able to move the ball fairly well against the Jaguars as Jones completed 22 of 37 passes for 190 yards and Tracy had 18 carries for 103 yards. Wideouts Wan'Dale Robins had 5 receptions for 51 yards while rookie Malik Nabers contributed 6 catches for 50 yards.

New York was undone by its turnovers. In addition to Tracy's overtime fumble, Jones threw 2 interceptions. The New York quarterback was clearly frustrated after another Giants loss.

“I’m not sure it’s one thing consistently. I think several things, and we’ve got to every game be dialed in on all those critical things that determine winning and losing,” he said after the game, per the Associated Press. “It’s very frustrating. Came up short, obviously hurt ourselves a lot. Turnovers were a critical factor in the game. Very frustrating.”

Giants had high hopes at the start of the season

New York was hoping for a bounce-back season after finishing 6-11 in 2023. However, neither head coach Brian Daboll nor Jones has had any decent answers this season.

There have to be legitimate questions about Daboll's job status and Jones' position as the team's starting quarterback. If the Giants make a replacement under center, it appears that backup Drew Lock would get the opportunity.

The Giants considered making a change at the quarterback position during the offseason. There were strong rumors prior to the draft that the Giants would move into a position to select one of the elite quarterbacks last spring.

In the end, the Giants did not draft a quarterback in 2024, but they may have to go in that direction next year.

While the Giants were forced to play from behind throughout the game, the Panthers were able to win for the second week in a row.

Bryce Young was able to avoid key mistakes as he completed 15 of 25 passes for 126 yards with 1 touchdown. Running back Chuba Hubbard had a huge game with 28 carries for 153 yards and 1 touchdown. Panthers defensive end A'Shawn Robinson had 7 tackles, 1 sack and 2 tackles for loss.

The Giants have a bye upon their return from Germany and will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 12. The Panthers also have a bye in Week 11 and will host the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs in Week 12.
