Plenty of New York Giants fans probably had a difficult time navigating how to feel about Eli Manning over the past couple of seasons. However, Giants fans may be waving off to a club legend as the long-time signal-caller is seriously considering retiring from the game he has dedicated his life to.
Paul Schwartz of the New York Post detailed Manning's seemingly post-career activities following a 17-year stint with the Giants. Based on what Manning is up to, any Giants fan would understand why it makes a lot of sense for him to just call it quits.
It was clear throughout the course of the 2019 season that Manning has no interest in rearing Daniel Jones to become a quality replacement for him. He identifies as a starting quarterback and would rather not play at all than being benched. With that in mind, he also has no plans to get into the Giants' coaching staff.
Another option for him would be to leave the Giants and look for employment someplace else, but there's no assurance that he'll be a starting quarterback there. Moreover, he loves the Giants and would rather spend the rest of his career with the team.
The most interesting statement came from his family, though. The Manning patriarch gave his support to his son, but he kept mum about his playing future.
“I’ll support Eli whatever he wants to do,’’ said Archie Manning, Eli’s father. “He’s pretty good at thinking through things. He’ll do what’s right and he’ll do what’s best.’’
Manning won two Super Bowls and was named a Pro-Bowler four times in his career. He's a beloved figure in the Giants organization, notching 57,023 passing yards and 366 touchdowns.
