It's been two years since New York Giants general manager David Gettleman made the call to take Daniel Jones sixth overall in the 2019 NFL Draft. Up to this day, however, the jury is still out on the former Duke Blue Devils star. It's not hard to imagine that many Giants fans have already quit on Jones given the lack of success the team has had in the last two seasons with Jones under center. As for Gettleman, he seems to be already reaching a breaking point on the quarterback.

Via Ralph Vacchiano of SNY:

Gettleman on whether this season will determine whether he’s right about QB Daniel Jones: “We certainly hope so. He’s for all the physical skills and all the mental skills. … I think we’ll have a pretty good idea when the season’s over.”

Gettleman took quite a lot of criticisms from Giants fans after taking Jones, who eventually succeeded Eli Manning as the team's starting quarterback. Jones showed some promise in his rookie season for the Giants when he passed for 3,027 yards and 24 touchdowns against 12 interceptions. In his sophomore year as a pro, he took a big step back. In the 2020 season, he passed for 2,943 yards to go with 11 touchdowns and 10 picks thrown. He was operating behind a porous offensive line, though, while also missing running back Saquon Barkley due to injury for most of the campaign, so there were a few convenient alibis for his regression.

This time, it's going to be different for the Giants QB. Gettleman got him a shiny new elite weapon in Kenny Golladay plus Barkley is back.

Let's see if this season will indeed be when Jones blossoms into the quarterback Gettlemen envisioned him to be.
