Landon Collins was mentioned in many trade rumors leading up to the 2018 NFL trade deadline, but when everything was said and done the New York Giants chose to keep him around.

Reports have come out that the Giants plan to use the franchise tag on him this offseason and would like to sign him to a long-term contract extension, as noted by Clutch Points. Strangely, it doesn't sound like the two sides have discussed a new contract yet.

According to a report quoting Collins from NJ.com, the Giants and Collins have yet to begin extension talks.

“We'll see. We've still got to go through negotiations and stuff. We haven't even started that yet. We have to see how it goes.”

Collins also opened up about how he was feeling with the rumors swirling around about him leading up to the trade deadline.

“The last couple hours were stressful. I had to think about everything. Whether I had to pack up and go. It was very stressful. I wasn't looking for nothing. Anything can go at that moment. Especially when we're having the season we're having.”

Speaking of the season that the Giants are having, they are now 1-7 heading into Week 10. The team could very well end up going into a rebuild in the near future. Collins may very well be a part of that if he signs an extension.

Throughout the eight games he has played this season, Collins has racked up 62 tackles to go along with a forced fumble and four defended passes.

At 24 years old, Collins is one of the top safeties in the game. New York would love to keep him around, but Collins may get the itch to head elsewhere to compete for a Super Bowl.

Either way, contract talks have not begun yet and may very well be put aside until the offseason.
