The San Francisco Giants currently hold a 17-23 record. As a result, they are fourth in the National League West division.

San Francisco made a playoff push in 2023 before falling just short at the end of the season. The Giants made a number of free-agent signings this past offseason, bringing in Blake Snell, Jorge Soler, and Matt Chapman. It appeared as if San Francisco was set to compete for an NL Wild Card spot at the very least.

It should be mentioned that both Snell and Soler are currently on the injured list. Snell endured a miserable start to his Giants career before being placed on the IL with a left adductor strain. Soler recently joined Snell on the IL with a right shoulder strain.

Nevertheless, Giants starting pitcher Logan Webb has no intention of making excuses for the team's underwhelming performance.

“It’s dogs**t. It’s not good enough,” Webb said, via Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Webb always gives honest answers. He has made a number of eye-opening remarks in the past. In the end, he is an extremely competitive baseball player who expects his team to win.

San Francisco has not met their expectations over the past few seasons, however. Logan Webb believes the Giants feature enough potential to perform at a higher level.

Again, the Giants have underwhelmed thus far. Webb, though, has pitched well.

The Giants ace has recorded a 3.38 ERA across a league-leading nine games pitched. Yet, he is just 3-4 on the season. Wins and losses do not mean as much as they once did for pitchers, but Webb's record is telling of San Francisco's 2024 frustrations.

Webb has quietly been one of the best pitchers in MLB since 2021. In fact, he finished second in NL Cy Young voting for the 2023 campaign after pitching to a 3.25 ERA and 1.074 WHIP. Webb also struck out 194 hitters and led the league with 216 innings pitched.

Logan Webb's presence in the starting pitching rotation should give Giants fans hope. Sure, San Francisco has not played up to their expectations. But this is a ball club that features talented players and with Webb leading the way, perhaps the Giants will bounce back.

Of course, Blake Snell and Jorge Soler's returns from injury will play pivotal roles in a possible rebound for the team. Snell won the NL Cy Young in 2023 and is one of the best pitchers in the sport when he is on his game. Soler, meanwhile, is one of the better right-handed power hitters in baseball.

Still, the Giants will need the remainder of the roster to step up and make an impact. San Francisco must receive contributions from more than just the stars in order to seriously compete in the National League.

The addition of the third wild card spot leaves the door open for a postseason run. The Giants probably will not win the NL West with the ultra-talented Los Angeles Dodgers in the division, but a wild card spot is certainly not out of the question.

Perhaps Logan Webb's brutally honest message will motivate the Giants.
