The 2022 NFL season is several months away, allowing for every team to load up their rosters. We'll see how it plays out for the New York Giants, as the organization has made multiple exciting moves to get the team back on track. On Friday, the front office signed a young offensive tackle who is brand new to football all thanks to defensive end Osi Umenyiora.

According to the Giants, they've come to terms on a deal with Nigerian offensive tackle Roy Mbaeteka. Although he has extremely limited playing experience, Brian Daboll and the coaching staff see potential in Mbaeteka. Osi Umenyiora has been a mentor for the Nigerian prospect, who opened the door for this opportunity.

Osi Umenyiora responded to the signing with an emotional message on social media. The Giants' defensive end lived in Nigeria since he was seven years old. Umenyiora is paving the way for more non-American prospects to enter the NFL. If Roy Mbaeteka is anything like his mentor, New York should be in good hands moving forward.

Umenyiora speaks very highly of Mbaeteka, per Michael Eisen. The Giants' defensive end goes on to explain how naturally gifted Roy Mbaeteka truly is.

“Once you see him, you know he's physically imposing and in a year or two if you immerse him in football culture, he's going to be fantastic. The Giants took a chance. Not much of a chance, I think. When you see him working, you're going to know what he's about.” – Osi Umenyiora

We'll see how it all plays out. Players who lack experience have excelled in professional sports before just off of sheer athleticism and willpower. Look for the Giants to take their time with Roy Mbaeteka, as it sounds like his potential is absolutely through the roof. Considering New York is in dire need of offensive linemen, this signing could be massive for this franchise down the road.
