The New York Giants have made it clear that they intend to put an emphasis on improving their offensive line and running back depth this offseason. Apparently, the latter situation was nearly solved by star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. prior to the 2017 season.

Philadelphia Eagles running back LeGarrette Blount is on the verge of making history with an appearance in Super Bowl LII. However, according to Bob Glauber of Newsday, Beckham Jr. attempted to lure Blount to New York instead of Philadelphia during the offseason:

“[Beckham] did the same thing that any really, really close friend would do, and that’s try to get a close friend on the team,” said Blount, who is represented by the same agent as Beckham and got to know him when the former LSU receiver was drafted by the Giants in the first round in 2014. “It’s a lot easier to play when you’re really close to somebody. You go to work and you see him every day, you grind with him every day. He definitely wanted me to be there.”

Beckham Jr. is one of the most recognizable and personable professional athletes in the world today. it is easy to see how the star wideout can be persuasive.

However, it was not enough to deter Blount's decision, as he ultimately signed with the Giants' division rival in the Eagles. With hindsight being 20/20, perhaps it was the best decision for both sides.

Although Blount has largely served as a complimentary back in Philadelphia, he has seen his usage increase in the postseason. Add that to the fact that he is on the verge of a second consecutive Super Bowl, albeit with a different team.
