The San Francisco Giants are honoring recently retired catcher Buster Posey with a retirement ceremony in their contest against the St. Louis Cardinals. The MVP-winning catcher helped usher in a dominant run of Bay Area sports that was continued by Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors.

The Giants won three championships prior to the Warriors' dominant stretch. Curry and Thompson shared messages for Posey ahead of his big day. They congratulated him on his accomplishments and praised him for how he carried himself and represented the Bay Area.

Soon after Posey announced his retirement, Curry said he was happy that Posey chose to retire on his own terms. He also commented about Posey representing just one team in his professional career, which Curry and Thompson can attest to with the Warriors.

Although it has not been announced that Posey is getting his jersey retired, the Giants will honor their former star's retirement. He was one of the best hitters for championship-winning teams and was named an All-Star seven times in his 12-year career, all of which came in San Francisco. Posey won five Silver Slugger Awards, a Gold Glove Award, and a Rookie of the Year Award.

Unfortunately for Posey, the Giants are honoring him following a five-game losing streak. Although Carlos Rodon has been brilliant this season, San Francisco is enduring a tough skid as they celebrate their legend. With a huge reason to win today, perhaps the Giants can come through for their former superstar.
