Tiger Woods could not help himself but break down a bit emotionally as he walked the 18th fairway Friday. Woods knew what the rest of us were already thinking, but didn't want to admit. This might very well be the final time we see Woods walking The Old Course at St. Andrews. Woods missed the cut at The Open Championship for the second straight time, finishing with a 9-over for the tournament.

As he walked the 18th fairway, you could see the emotion in his face, in his eyes. Fans recognized it as well and let him hear it with a standing ovation. Afterwards, Tiger Woods talked about that moment.

“The warmth and ovation… it got to me,” Woods said.

The legendary golfer entered the day 145th out of 158 golfers after posting a 6-over 78 on Thursday. It was one of his worst rounds at St. Andrews throughout his illustrious career. He knew he would have to go very low to make the cut. Sadly, it was not his day.

After an early birdie on three, he followed it up with bogeys on four and six, all but taking the cut out of play.

Woods acknowledged after the round that this might have been the final time he plays The Open Championship at St. Andrews. This course holds a special place in both history and with Woods himself. He and Jack Nicklaus are the only two golfers over the last 100 years to win two Claret Jugs at St. Andrews. Tiger previously talked about skipping the U.S. Open this year in order to prepare for The Open, but this certainly was not what he had in mind.
