Just a few years ago, if you asked if there were any chance Tiger Woods would be an assistant captain for the US Ryder Cup team you'd laugh it out the room. You know, that scandal and all.

Now, however, the current main leading the way for the US Ryder Cup is publicly stating he wants just that to happen.

“I've talked to him; I don't know if we are there yet to commit to him being there,” Steve Stricker told ESPN about Tiger Woods. “He's still got a lot going on, and his spirits are great, though, as of late. We were on a Zoom call with him just last week, and he seems like he's in a better place. He's still got some ways to go.”

“He would do anything for you, and he's totally, totally vested in the situation and the process, almost to the point of, he's on it early and so much, it's like, ‘Dude, we've still got months to go yet.' He's really good at being an assistant, and I'd love to have him be there if it's at all possible.”

That's a lot of words to basically say nothing is a done deal yet regarding the star's status — in any shape or form — regarding the US Ryder Cup squad.

Tiger Woods was unfortunately involved in a serious car accident back in February. While the details since have been sporadic and a bit all over the place, the fact that Steve Stricker is pushing for Woods to be involved in any fashion, and that the golfer doesn't seem totally opposed, does suggest he's more than on the mend.

There is no legitimate updates on his health, however. Here's to hoping Tiger Woods is doing well. Moreover, that if he wants to be a part of it, he'll be healthy enough to be involved with the US Ryder Cup team.
