The PGA Tour's first major of the year, the 2022 Masters, didn't disappoint, as star Tiger Woods returned to the sport, Rory McIlroy completed an incredible comeback, and world no. 1 Scottie Scheffler raced to the green jacket thanks to a machine-like efficiency on the course. However, three majors remain- and golf fans are hoping that Woods, along with fan favorite Phil Mickelson, are able to participate. Mickelson, of course, stepped away from the golf course following his ill-advised comments on the Saudi-backed Super Golf League back in February. While Woods participated in the Masters, Mickelson did not, though the latter was invited. With the PGA Championship set to occur in May and the US Open to follow in June, Woods and Mickelson took the first steps towards possibly playing in the US Open at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, as reported by Sports Illustrated and the Boston Globe.

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are among the 48 fully exempt players who have registered for the 122nd U.S. Open, to be played June 16-19 at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts.

Both Woods and Mickelson are among the players entered for the 2022 US Open, which is set to begin on June 16. While it is a bit of a procedural measure, as noted by Sports Illustrated, it's still noteworthy in that both stars at least have a chance to participate in the tournament.

Woods, who won the 2019 Masters, and Mickelson, who secured last year's PGA Championship, were both exempt from the qualifying round due to their recent major wins.

Both stars will now have ample time to prepare for the US Open. Golf could have two of its best stars on the course come June in Massachusetts.
