The Memphis Grizzlies received some worrisome news on Monday after Desmond Bane landed on the injury report.
Bane has been listed as questionable for Game 2 of their Western Conference Finals playoffs series against the Golden State Warriors due to a lower back soreness. While a questionable designation means there is a 50 percent chance he can play, the one-day gap between the contests means he doesn't have a lot of time to rest his injury.
Desmond Bane is one of the Grizzlies' key cogs, often leading the team in scoring alongside Ja Morant. He averaged 23.5 points on 50.0 percent shooting from the field and 49.1 percent from deep during their first round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The 23-year-old guard struggled in Game 1 against the Warriors, putting up just nine points on 30.0 percent shooting, and his back issue might be the reason for that.
For what it's worth, head coach Taylor Jenkins doesn't seem bothered by Bane's injury and played it down as just general soreness.
“Des is just dealing with some general soreness that crept up in the game,” Jenkins said, per Commercial Appeal. “Just trying to stay loose. He's doing alright. Feeling a little sore like most of our guys today.”
It remains to be seen if Bane can recover enough to feel comfortable playing in Game 2. The Grizzlies need to win on Tuesday before the series shifts to Golden State, and so it will be a huge blow to the team if he's absent or not at his 100 percent.
