Senior night was a special occasion for the Tigers, as they celebrated the hard work and dedication of 15 student-athletes throughout their college careers. With the end of the season approaching, the players were determined to finish strong and secure a victory. Head Coach Toriano Morgan expressed his admiration for the team and emphasized the effort required to achieve their 6th win of the season.
“It was a complete team effort, although we faced some challenges in the second quarter with our performance. We regrouped in the third quarter, with our defense stepping up and delivering by forcing three turnovers. Da’Shuan Hugee had a remarkable performance running the football. Once we established a comfortable lead, we effectively managed the clock to secure a 41-17 victory.”
It was truly a remarkable team effort as Quarterback Jyron Rusell, Wide Receiver Johnny Jones, and running back Da’Shau Hugee displayed their exceptional skills in Saturday's victorious game. Russell showcased his talent by throwing for 255 yards and delivering three magnificent touchdowns, all of which were caught by Johnny Jones, who made an impressive seven receptions for 102 yards. Meanwhile, running back Da’Shuan Hugee reaped the benefits of their collaboration, rushing for a remarkable 245 yards and securing three touchdowns on 30 carries.
Despite a sluggish start, the Tiger's defense made a rapid turnaround in the second half, relentlessly pressuring Dragons quarterback CJ Brooks. They sacked him six times, forced two fumbles, and intercepted the ball twice, limiting their offense to a mere 255 yards. Head coach Toriano Morgan expressed his satisfaction with the exceptional performance of his defense.
“We knew they were a strong and talented football team, coming off two big wins this season. They weren't here to give up easily. We understood we had to handle their bursts of energy. Once things settled down, our main goal was to take control of the game. And I think we did just that, which led us to secure the win in the end.”
The Dragons (2-8) had an opportunity to conclude their season with three victories, a feat they were unable to achieve last year. Despite trailing by just three points (17-20) at halftime, the second half proved to be a major disappointment. A barrage of turnovers prevented them from scoring, and they struggled to contain the explosive offense of Edward Waters, yielding a total of 487 yards. In the third and fourth quarters, quarterback CJ Brooks fumbled on consecutive drives and threw two interceptions in the final quarter.
Both teams will enter the offseason with a shared goal of bolstering their rosters and establishing themselves as premier teams in their respective divisions.
