Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade is excited for the team and, well, for rookie guard Tyler Herro.

Herro, who was drafted 13th overall by the Heat in the 2019 NBA Draft, has been tagged by his fellow rookies as the best shooter in their class. However, Wade argued the 19-year-old is more than just a sharpshooter, emphasizing that Herro is a hardworking player who brings so much more to the table than his long-range shooting.

“Just from summer league, right away, you know a basketball player when you see one; the kid can play basketball,” Wade said, per Anthony Chiang and Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

“Obviously he’s going to get a tag of being a shooter because he looks a certain way. But he’s not; he’s a basketball player. He makes plays. He plays very well off the dribble. He’s a great 1-on-1 player and obviously he can shot the [heck] out of the ball. But everything you hear about him from the coaching staff, from the players, is how hard he works and how dedicated to the craft that he is. So obviously myself and Udonis [Haslem], we respect that coming to this organization.”

Wade furthered that Herro is already looking like a “great pick” for the Heat. While the Kentucky product is still a rookie and still has plenty of room to grow, the Miami icon sees him making a big impact for the team right off the bat.

“And it looks like it was a great pick for us. So I look for him to continue to grow in this organization,” Wade said. “And this year, we don’t want to wait with him. I look and see he got the opportunity now to make a difference in this league. So let’s get to it.”

It must be flattering for Herro to hear such praise from a legendary player. If everything goes well, he's set for a long, successful career with the Heat.
