Portland Trail Blazers center Hassan Whiteside returns to South Beach on Sunday to face his old team, the Miami Heat, and Heat point guard Goran Dragic wants to set the record straight on Whiteside.

Miami traded Whiteside to the Blazers this past summer as part of the three-team deal which brought Jimmy Butler to Miami from Philadelphia.

Dragic admits that Whiteside is “misunderstood” and isn't a bad guy or teammate:

“Misunderstood? Yes, sometimes,” Dragic said of Whiteside’s NBA reputation, via the Miami Herald. “It’s tough. When you’re from the outside, people have their own thoughts and ideas. Usually it’s not 100 percent right because you need to see the full picture behind the scenes and everything. I think they misunderstand him quite a bit.”

Whiteside put up 12.3 points and 11.3 rebounds while shooting 57.1 percent from the field last season for the Heat. He recorded 36 double-doubles, but was a negative on the defensive end of the floor.

Whiteside was very vocal about his lack of playing time in the 2018 postseason and how Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra did not use him properly when he was on the floor. Whiteside has one-year left on his deal. He’ll make $27 million this season with the Blazers. He’s no longer the Heat’s headache, although it's clear the players in Miami never had an issue with him.

The Heat probably won't have a video tribute for Whiteside on Sunday. We'll see how the Heat fans react to Whiteside's return.
