The Miami Heat are the first team in the NBA to introduce a new way of preventing COVID-19–by bringing dogs to sniff out the virus.

With the Heat finally allowing fans back at the arena, they don't want to take any chances and are doing whatever they can to limit the spread of the never-ending pandemic that has swept the globe for over a year now.

The dogs are trained and will either lay down or sit when they detect the virus. If this works, it could be something other teams and organizations outside of the sports world look at to control the virus.

The Heat played in the NBA Finals last year but ultimately lost in six games to the Los Angeles Lakers. With that said, South Beach fans have been itching to get back into AmericanAirlines Arena since the shutdown last March.

The NBA has taken extreme precautions to stop the spread of the virus, with some teams already allowing fans in their arenas. However, the Heat are the first to use the concept of dogs in an effort to stop the virus from spreading and endangering others.

It might seem a bit crazy and some wonder if it really works, but if it does work, the NBA might consider it as an option for all arenas around the country as Commissioner Adam Silver hopes to have fans in all stadiums sooner rather than later.
