When Memphis Grizzlies sent Andre Iguodala to the Miami Heat on trade deadline, everyone predicted a primarily defensive role off the bench for the 36-year-old veteran. True enough, Iguodala immediately showed up on the defensive end in Sunday night’s game against the Portland Trailblazers.

The two-time All-Defensive team member made his debut with less than three minutes left in the first quarter, now wearing No. 28. Less than a minute later, Iguodala swatted the ball out of Mario Hezonja’s hands. He later also began the fourth quarter with an assist to Chris Silva. He again stole the ball on the next possession, resulting in a three by Duncan Robinson.

Despite cutting the lead late in the game, Portland eventually won the matchup at 115-109, courtesy of Damian Lillard’s 33 points and 8 assists.

Iguodala finally went on court for the first time since last season’s Finals with the Warriors. Golden State traded him to the Grizzlies last July, but the veteran never played for the team before landing with the Heat on a trade-and-extend transaction. The three-time NBA champion ended up spending 23 minutes on court, posting 2 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, a block, and a steal.
