The rumors that have been swirling around the Charlotte Hornets for the last few months have proven to be true: former Lakers' GM Mitch Kupchak is headed East.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN was on the deal first that Mitch Kupchak would be signing on to a new deal that will make him a general manager of the Hornets.

“In every role and in every stop during his tenure in the NBA, Mitch Kupchak has brought the highest levels of success to his teams. He’s a proven winner,” team owner Michael Jordan said in a release. “Having won championships as both a player and an executive, we have confidence that Mitch is the right person to lead our basketball operations, build a winning culture and bring sustained success to our organization, for our fans and for the city of Charlotte.”

Kupchak and Jordan have had a tight relationship as they both went to North Carolina and they have really developed a relationship over the years. That's why when Rich Cho was fired in February, Kupchak instantly became a favorite for the job.

“I’m excited to join the Hornets organization and I want to thank Michael for this opportunity,” said Kupchak. “I am well aware of the passion for basketball in Charlotte and throughout the entire state of North Carolina‎, and I am confident that we can build the Hornets into a successful team that our great fans can be proud of.”

Kupchak was the Los Angeles Lakers' general manager from 2000-2017 and during that time, he helped lead the team to five NBA Championships.

Towards the end of the tenure, though, he made some questionable decisions. He had to deal with the Dwight Howard saga, went through a few head coaches, and signed the virtually untraceable Loul Deng and Timofey Mozgov to massive contracts.

The Hornets are hoping that he can learn from the mistakes at the end of his run with the Lakers and make some better ones with his new team.
