In the process of breaking their four-game losing streak, the Charlotte Hornets upset the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday behind the efforts of Terry Rozier. After the game, Rozier said whenever he's handling the floor, the Hornets become hard to read and therefore more dangerous.
In the Hornets' 109-101 victory, Rozier dropped 34 points, eight rebounds, and 10 assists. They're now at 28-28 for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference. For the hard-nosed guard, his mere presence greatly aids his team and causes trouble for the opposing squad (via ESPN).
“It's unpredictable when I'm on the ball as opposed to when I'm off the ball and teams can focus on me more.”
The statistics back Rozier's claims. The Hornets exploded for 44 points in the first quarter alone, with Rozier chipping in 17 points and six assists, which means that 31 of the Hornets' 44 points were all because of him.
Rozier has certainly grown out of being a team's sixth man like his days with the Boston Celtics. Since being traded to the Hornets in 2019, Rozier has been a bona fide starter and as he said, game-changer. He has stepped up big without LaMelo Ball, Gordon Hayward, and Devonte' Graham.
So far in the season, the 27-year-old former Louisville standout is averaging career-highs of 20.4 points on 46.5 percent shooting from the field. His performance has not only won the hearts of Hornets fans, but it has also sparked whispers that he may win the Most Improved Player plum.
Whether or not he gains recognition or not is a matter of wait-and-see. But Terry Rozier doesn't seem to crave for it. He just knows that he's good.
