The Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes got off to a blazing 4-0 start and thought everything was going smoothly. Then, an ankle injury to Mahomes and other injuries to some of his offensive linemen have contributed to Kansas City's two losses in the past weeks.

With that being said, how much is the ankle injury hindering Mahomes' play for the Chiefs? Since his days at Texas Tech, the gunslinging phenom has made himself a dangerous quarterback when he gets out of the pocket.

Therefore, it is crucial that he is able to be mobile without any limitations. But with his ankle ailing, we've seen Mahomes make throws on the run less often.

As a result, Kansas City's high-flying offense has been directly affected by it. In the first three weeks of this season, Mahomes combined for 1,195 yards and 10 touchdowns. Additionally, the offense averaged an impressive 33.3 points per game.

However, in his past three games, he has thrown for just 909 yards, four touchdowns, and an interception. Above all, Mahomes has completed just 56 percent of his passes in the past three weeks. On top of that, Andy Reid's offense has gone all the way down to 23.6 points per game in that span.

So yes, Mahomes' ankle is definitely playing a large part in why his play has declined in recent weeks. With Eric Fisher and Andrew Wylie out with injuries, the left side of the offensive line is being manned by backups.

That obviously doesn't help with keeping Mahomes upright during games. As a matter of fact, Mahomes has reaggravated his ankle injury twice in the past two games.

In light of that, Reid has to realize that he needs to find a way to avoid re-injury for his young signal-caller. How exactly can he do that? By running the football with the three running backs in their backfield.

Since Week 5, Kansas City has averaged just 44.5 rushing yards per game. That is after the offense was able to garner 101.5 yards per game over the first month of the season.

Considering all of that, the Chiefs offense could continue to struggle while Mahomes is recovering from the injury. Luckily for him, he'll have a week and a half to get his ankle in better shape after taking on the Denver Broncos on Thursday night.
