It's hard to believe that just two years ago, the Jacksonville Jaguars made it all the way to the AFC Championship Game on the strength of a dominant defense.

That defense is now a shell of itself, as many of its top players are gone, and the edge that it had in 2017 just isn't there anymore.

As a result, the Jaguars have gone just 11-21 over the last two seasons.

The good news is that there is hope in Jacksonville, as the Jags actually have an exciting young offense (yes, offense) and some guys with potential on defense.

So, here are three major needs for the Jaguars going into the offseason:

3. The Jaguars Need A Tight End

The Jaguars have a really impressive group of young wide receivers that includes DJ Chark, Dede Westbrook and Chris Conley, but they are pretty thin at tight end.

James O'Shaughnessy appears to have some potential, albeit limited, and injuries limited him to just five games this year.

It's been quite some time since Jacksonville has had a reliable pass-catching tight end, so that is something that the Jags could very well pursue this offseason.

Giving Gardner Minshew another target in the aerial attack could pay major dividends, as he already has three really good young receivers and a running back in Leonard Fournette who seems to be on the rise.

A good tight end could possibly take the Jags' offense to the next level and make what is already a nice receiving corps even more lethal.

2. A Run Stuffer

Believe it or not, this is an area in which the Jaguars have struggled for quite some time.

Even during their 10-win campaign in 2017, Jacksonville was not good against the run, ranking just 21st. This year, the Jags fell all the way to 28th, allowing a hefty 139.3 rushing yards per game and surrendering 5.1 yards per carry.

The Jaguars have a decent pass rush, as they totaled 47 sacks in 2019, but their lack of a run defense made things very difficult, as they finished a mere 24th in defense overall.

Jacksonville could really use a defensive tackle who can thwart opposing rushing attacks, especially in an AFC South division that features Derrick Henry and Marlon Mack.

1. Offensive Line Help

As impressive as the Jaguars are in terms of young talent at the skill positions, it's probably not going to matter unless they straighten out their offensive line.

Pro Football Focus ranked Jacksonville's offensive line unit 26th in the NFL this season, which does not come as much of a surprise given that Cam Robinson is the team's best lineman in spite of having his own struggles.

Realistically, the Jags are not far away from having a really good offense. Provided that Minshew improves upon his impressive rookie campaign, they become very good, very soon.

But the offensive line is the missing link.

The Jaguars absolutely need to focus on adding linemen through both free agency and the draft in order to ensure that their quarterback and their running back will be adequately protected for the coming years.
