Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles has gotten a lot of heat over the years for his play. But Bill Belichick has been impressed with his mobility, which the Patriots coach has compared to Cam Newton and Deshaun Watson.

Bortles does have some limitations with his passing game and sometimes his decision making but plenty of times he has been able to keep defenses off guard and pick up first downs with his legs, something Belichick knows the Patriots need to be prepared for.

“He runs well. He’s a big, strong kid. He’s hard to bring down,” Belichick said of Bortles via Patriots Wire. “He can extend plays. Just similar to the quarterbacks that we’ve seen really the last three weeks. Not counting the Giants game, but we’ve seen three weeks in a row plays that have that type of skill. And yeah, he’s definitely in that category.”

Bortles is still a pass-first quarterback but there are also designed runs that keep the defense off balance and a lot of times go for big gains. Belichick pointed this out and will likely be ready for Bortles' potential runs.

“There’s times where he’ll just pull the ball down on a pass if the rush lanes aren’t – if the quarterback’s not properly contained and he has an opportunity to run and gain easy yardage for a first down or a touchdown or a scramble situation, he’ll do that. I mean, any quarterback will do that. But he can do a lot of damage there.”

The Patriots are going to have to make sure they have a spy on Bortles so that he doesn't use his legs to flip the field for the Jaguars. If the Patriots are able to keep Bortles in the pocket Belichick's squad is going to have a good chance to win their second game of the season.
