The Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed to a massive extension with offensive tackle Cam Robinson. The deal is reportedly worth $54 million dollars over 3-years, per Ian Rapoport. Robinson, who was already franchise tagged, provides steady protection for Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars offense. The former 2017 second round pick finished within the top 20 in pass blocking a season ago.

The signing also affects the Jaguars NFL Draft strategy.

There was discussion that Jacksonville could take a player such as Alabama's Evan Neal to help sure up their O-line. Neal is a promising option in the draft but the Jags will likely aim for either Travon Walker or Aidan Hutchison. Drafting one of Hutchison or Walker will strengthen the team's defense in a much-needed way.

The Cam Robinson extension could ultimately have drastic affects on the Jaguars 2022-2023 performance. If he had not been extended there is a possibility that the team would have felt pressured to upgrade the O-line and add extra protection for Trevor Lawrence. But that decision would have left two of the best college defenders on the table for opponents to scoop up in the draft.

Things are beginning to come together in Jacksonville. Lawrence is the face of the franchise at QB, and they are building pieces around him. Robinson is a consistent force on the offensive line, and the Jags have other intriguing pieces on offense as well. The defense is beginning to take shape and drafting either Walker or Hutchison could give the Jaguars a formidable defensive squad next season.

The only question is, who will the Jaguars take in the NFL Draft? We will find out soon enough.
