The Jacksonville Jaguars have decided to move on from general manager Dave Caldwell.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Jaguars have fired Caldwell on Sunday following Jacksonville's 27-25 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

Caldwell has been with the Jaguars since 2013. During that time he was instrumental in creating the defense that would come to be known as “Sacksonville,” but has had issues with retaining players ever since 2017 when they made the playoffs for the first time in a decade.

Most notable of the players who asked for trades were Jalen Ramsey and Leonard Fournette, with the latter being cut instead of traded. Since 2017 the team has struggled, not having a winning record, winning six games last season and five in 2018. This season the Jaguars have played even worse, only winning one game so far.

Prior to his joining the Jaguars, Caldwell was a part of the Atlanta Falcons organization from 2008 to 2012, first as the Director of College Scouting before becoming Director of Player Personnel for the 2012 season. Prior to that he was an area scout for the Indianapolis Colts from 1998 to 2007. He started his career in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers in their second and third year as a franchise in 1996 and 1997 as a scouting assistant.

There is no word on who will be the interim GM in Jacksonville yet or if the franchise has any candidates for the job. It is also unclear where Caldwell might land. Updates will be posted as they become available.
