The Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans meet up in the Lonestar state in a Week 17 matchup to close out the season. The Jaguars don't have any playoff implications on the line, but the Texans do.
For the Jaguars, it's nothing but a working obligation and pride in stopping the Texans from getting into the postseason. In fact, Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles is super hyped up about their matchup against DeShaun Watson and company.
“I think regardless of what is on the line, I think anytime you get a chance to play Houston in Houston, it’s a big game. With the guys they have and obviously not playing well against them earlier this year, we are going to be fired up and looking to win a ball game. We get a chance to play a divisional rival that is playing to clinch the division. They are going to be as fired up as they can be and ready to go. We are going to have to match it and give them everything we got. Spoiler – even if it was the last game of the year and both teams had five wins, I know for us I would hope the passion, the enthusiasm to play and win the football game is the same.”
The Jaguars are currently 5-10 on the season and sit in the 4th spot of the AFC South. They've had a very disappointing season thus far after making the super bowl the year prior. Their defense just hasn't been the same. Head coach Doug Marrone has a lot to answer to in the coming months to how the Jaguars will turn a corner on such a disappointing season.
On the other hand, the Texans are fighting for the divisional crown. They're 10-5 on the season and with a win will clinch their division, giving themselves a better seeding and an opportunity for a first-round bye.
