Jacksonville Jaguars star running back Leonard Fournette is reportedly questionable to play this coming Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys due to a problematic hamstring, so second-string tailback T.J. Yeldon is expected to handle most of the backfield duties for the team. That’s despite the fact that the Jags have made some moves to add depth to their running back corps, per Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.
“My understanding is the plan is for T.J. Yeldon to still be the guy in the Jaguars’ backfield as long as Leonard Fournette is dealing with a hamstring injury.”
Yeldon has carried the brunt of the Jaguars’ ground attack so far this season, thanks to Fournette’s injury. In Jacksonville’s 30-14 road loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5, the former Alabama Crimson Tide running back appeared in 77 offensive snaps and finished with 53 rushing yards on 10 carries. He added 69 receiving yards and a touchdown on eight receptions.

The injuries to Fournette and Grant have necessitated the Jaguars to look for help in the backfield. They’ve already done so by signing veteran running back Jamaal Charles, though, it remains to be seen how big of a role will he have for the Jags. It’s likely that Charles will only serve as an insurance for the Jacksonville in case Yeldon gets bitten by the injury bug.
Yeldon has racked up 258 rushing yards and a touchdown to go with 194 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions through the first five weeks of the season.
