The Jacksonville Jaguars have seemingly decided to stick with quarterback Blake Bortles following a solid 2017 NFL season. However, that could potentially change should the right quarterback come along this offseason.

Although Bortles is coming off an impressive campaign, the Jaguars' brass has made it clear that they still may have some doubts. As a result, they will be doing their due diligence with the quarterback position leading up to the deadline on March 14, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk:

“Per a league source with knowledge of the situation, the Jaguars currently are exploring their options, actively.”

The reports are not exactly surprising given the recent interactions between Bortles and the front office. He recalled his exit interview being a brief interaction with executive vice president of football operations Tom Coughlin.

It was a deciding year for Bortles, to say the least. After a fluctuating career with the Jaguars, 2017 was essentially his last chance to solidify himself as the franchise quarterback moving forward.

The former No. 3 overall pick followed through with perhaps his best season by far from an efficiency and winning standpoint. He even flexed his clutch gene during the playoffs against the Pittsburgh Steelers en route to the AFC Conference Championship.

However, recent reports suggest that it still did not seem to be enough to stake his claim as Jacksonville's long-term starter. That distinction could go to another quarterback should he be made available. Fortunately, the Jaguars can still use Bortles as a contingency just in case they are unable to find an adequate replacement by the March deadline.
