The Jacksonville Jaguars gave Super Bowl MVP quarterback Nick Foles a four-year contract worth nearly $90 million and over $45 million guaranteed last Spring. Then, Foles fractured his clavicle in Week 1, and his season was effectively over.

Sure, Foles returned in Week 11. But he suffered yet another injury in Week 13, and hardly made an impact as the Jaguars finished at 6-10 on the season.

More notably, Foles' replacement Gardner Minshew played pretty well in his stead, throwing for 3,271 yards and 21 touchdowns against just six interceptions.  The rookie out of Washington State also showed escapability in the pocket as well as a flair for the dramatic.

Naturally, Minshew's performance–as well as Foles' injury history–has bred somewhat of a quarterback controversy in Jacksonville.

However, the Jaguars have not initiated any trade talks with respect to Foles, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. Garofolo did say he believed a trade was still a possibility, however, as a number of teams reportedly have interest in Foles:

It is easy to see why Foles would generate interest. He has serious arm talent, and has won on the biggest stages despite spending a good majority of his career as a backup.

Simultaneously, he has a massive contract that is sure to eat up a lot of cap space. For those reasons, the Jaguars understand they might not have much leverage in trade negotiations, which is why they could elect to keep Foles and see how he performs when healthy.

Still, it will be interesting to see whether the Jaguars feel Minshew is indeed the signal-caller of the future, which would seem to limit Foles' remaining time in Jacksonville.
