The Jacksonville Jaguars have been struggling mightily to start the season. They are currently on a three-game losing streak and the locker room seems to be divided. Much of the blame has been placed on the poor play at quarterback by Blake Bortles. In their week 7 game against the Texans, Bortles was finally subbed early in the third quarter after having a horrible game, highlighted by two fumbles which led to a touchdown.

What makes thing even more interesting for the Jaguars and their fans is that they reportedly had a chance to make a quarterback upgrade by signing the now Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins. Unfortunately, they didn't go through with it due to the price range that Cousins would have merited.

An article from CBS Sports detailed the situation,

‘The Jaguars brass viewed Cousins as the best opportunity to upgrade at quarterback, the sources said, and were hopeful of being able to secure the free agent's services in the range of the $20M-$24M he had been earning on the franchise tag with the Redskins. However, it became clear as they did their due diligence on the quarterback's market that the competition for his services was going to be extremely stiff, with the Vikings, Jets, Cardinals, and Broncos all serious about signing him.”

“They were either going to have to entertain a deal worth close to $30M a year to have a chance to land Cousins, or continue to move forward with Bortles at around $18M a year, which he was in line for on the fifth-year option.

Kirk Cousins is having a splendid year for the Vikings, who are currently on top of their division with a 4-2 record. He currently has a 2162 total yards to with 14 touchdowns and a 101.8 quarterback rating. In hindsight, maybe the Jaguars should have considered harder to sign Cousins instead of sticking with Bortles.
