This one is different for me. For the first 45 hours of the #DONISSUE2 spidey-sense drop, I will be donating $45k of the proceeds to support the education of Jacob Blake’s children. I’ve also partnered with Adidas who will match my donation for a total of $90k. #createdwithadidas @adidashoops @marvel Swipe to get yours 🕷📚
Adidas released the following statement on the matter in regard to the Jazz star’s move:
“adidas stands in solidarity with athletes, coaches and cultural leaders driving positive disruption and demanding justice for the senseless shooting of Jacob Blake and the many whose lives have been impacted by systemic racism.
“Donovan Mitchell and adidas will donate all proceeds from the sales of the D.O.N. Issue #2 launching today, up to $90,000, to a college scholarship fund for the children of Jacob Blake.
“In support of those voices being heard, all other product releases scheduled to launch this weekend will be postponed across adidas stores, adidas.com, the adidas app and CONFIRMED.”
Jacob Blake was shot seven times in the back by police officers in Wisconsin. Donovan Mitchell recently said he’s tired of seeing his fellow African Americans getting shot by police despite being unarmed.
Blake is paralyzed from the waist down. While the Jazz star and Adidas can’t help Blake walk again, this donation will certainly help the Blake family in a grand fashion.
Mitchell and the Jazz are currently up 3-2 on the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the 2020 playoffs. Games are set to start up again on Saturday, with the Nuggets and Jazz scheduled to play their Game 6 on Sunday.
Mitchell has been one of the best players in the Disney bubble. He and Nuggets guard Jamal Murray have been putting on a show in the playoffs thus far.
