Donovan Mitchell sends shoutout to Baker Mayfield after being selected No. 1 overall by the Browns

Baker Mayfield and Donovan Mitchell

When it comes to surpassing a ton of people’s expectations, Utah Jazz rookie shooting guard Donovan Mitchell should immediately be someone who comes to mind.

On Thursday night, Mitchell showed his support on Twitter for the first overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback and 2017 Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield, who went from being a walk-on at both Texas Tech and Oklahoma to the draft’s first selection.

Mitchell, who was selected No. 13 overall by the Denver Nuggets, before he was traded to the Jazz, in the 2017 NBA Draft, also showed his support for two fellow University of Louisville alums who were selected in the first round of Thursday’s draft with Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander at No. 18 and the 2016 Heisman Trophy winner in quarterback Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens at No. 32.

With Game 6 of their first-round series with the Oklahoma City Thunder scheduled for later tonight, Mitchell and the Jazz will have the opportunity to close out OKC at home and advance to the Western Conference Semifinals to take on the top-seeded Houston Rockets.

In five starts so far in his playoff career, the 21-year-old Mitchell is already averaging a whopping 26.6 points on 44.4 percent shooting from the field, 7.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game in roughly 38.2 minutes of action per contest.
