In his best impersonation of LaVar Ball, former NBA player Jerry Stackhouse came up with one of the most ridiculous statements this summer.

Appearing as a guest on ESPN's Zach Lowe's Lowe Post podcast, Stackhouse, who coached the Raptors 905 to a D-League (now G-League) title last season, said that Brady Heslip would beat Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry in a shooting contest.

Stackhouse: “I get a Brady Heslip, who I think is probably one of, if not the best shooter in the world.”

Lowe: “Wow! Better than Steph Curry?”

Stackhouse: “I put him to the test with Steph Curry any day. He’s that good of a shooter.”

Maybe Stackhouse was just playing the part of a good coach who wants to inject some confidence in his players. After all, Heslip is one of Stackhouse's biggest contributors on the Raptors 905. But it's not like Heslip needs any more confidence, as he's long been a great shooter, leading the Big 12 in threes made per game and three-point percentage in his last season (2013-14) with the Baylor Bears before going undrafted in the 2014 NBA Draft. Heslip also led the G-League last season in three-pointers made during the playoffs.

So why the hyperbole, Jerry? Was it just a slip of the the tongue you wanted to take back?

As good as Heslip is at his craft, it's just hard to imagine any other player, let alone someone who's playing in the G-League, being a better shooter than Curry, who's on track to break the record for all-time threes made in NBA history, currently held by Ray Allen.
