A big topic of conversation leading up to the 2017 NBA Draft later this month is LaVar Ball‘s involvement with his son Lonzo Ball's life.

The latest to weigh in on the situation was NBA Hall of Famer Jerry West, who stated in an interview on the Dan Patrick Show on Thursday morning that he wouldn't want a father like LaVar.

“I really don’t want to get into that. Frankly, I don’t even like to talk about his dad. I’d rather talk about the kid. I wouldn’t want a father like that, to be honest with you. Because I think he puts added pressure on his kid. You know he loves his kid. You know that. It should be about his kids, not about him.”

In the last several weeks, LaVar hasn't exactly endeared himself well publicly in his many media interviews. His hovering presence over his son has only created a possible distraction or issue for teams to consider when looking at potentially drafting the former UCLA product.

That said, there hasn't been much concern from any teams up to this point in time. The Los Angeles Lakers‘ management in team president Magic Johnson and general manager Rob Pelinka have actually voiced praise toward the Ball family.

Although the 19-year-old has made it clear that he doesn't want to workout for the Boston Celtics, there doesn't appear that LaVar's presence will factor into the team's decision-making process for the first overall pick.

Instead, all of the focus is on the potential that teams believe that Ball possesses on the court and how he can contribute to their franchise next season and beyond that.
