The New York Jets made quite the investment in linebacker C.J. Mosley prior to the 2019 NFL season. Unfortunately, his debut year with the Jets is now over before it ever really began.

Head coach Adam Gase announced that Mosley will be placed on injured reserve after having surgery to repair his groin, via Brian Costello of WFAN:

Jets LB C.J. Mosley is having season-ending surgery and will go on IR, Adam Gase said

Mosley's tenure in New York got off to a rough start when he initially injured the groin in the season opener. Although he was able to make his return in Week 7, he further aggravated the injury during the 37-20 win over the New England Patriots. He will now finish the year with 12 tackles, two pass deflections, and an interception that he returned for a touchdown.

The Jets signed C.J. Mosley to a lucrative five-year, $85 million deal to serve as the central force of their defense. After all, the four-time Pro Bowler had already proven more than capable of filling this role during his time with the Baltimore Ravens, however, it appears they will have to wait until next season for their plans to come to fruition.

New York's decision to take a cautious approach with Mosley's recovery makes sense since they are not playing for much at 4-8 entering the final stretch of the year. They have since signed safety Bennett Jackson in a corresponding move to help shore up some depth over the top in Week 14 versus the Miami Dolphins.
